About Dr Janey Merron
Dr Merron undertook her undergraduate medical training at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 1998. She went on to spend 5 years training as a junior doctor in order to become a Principal GP. During this time she undertook residencies in a variety of specialties including General Medicine, Care of the elderly, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.
On attaining her certificate to practice as a GP (CCT) and passing the entry examinations with the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) she became a Full time GP Principal in a busy inner city practice in Birmingham. In 2009 Dr Merron relocated to North Staffordshire where she has been practicing as an NHS and Private GP ever since.
In addition to her general practice work, she is also a GP Appraiser, and was a GP Trainer and a GP Training Programme Director for over 18 years. In addition to working as a GP, Dr Merron was also the Designated Doctor for Child Safeguarding North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Integrated Care Board for 16 years.
Dr Merron has been practicing as a Private GP at the Nuffield North Staffordshire Hospital since 2018 and is the Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee.
Dr Merron principally considers herself to be a primary care physician and prides herself on her holistic approach to patient care. She champions involving her patients in their own management decisions and using evidence based medicine as the central ethos of all her consultations.
After 27 years of NHS practice Dr Merron was motivated to change to practice as a private GP when she realised that there are a core group of patients who struggle to access primary care services at time that suits their busy modern lives. Patients can wait up to 3 weeks for an NHS GP appointment. The NHS appointment time offered is often not at a time which is convenient to a person with a busy life and commitments and can be too short to address more complex or multiple medical issues.
Primary prevention of illness is of such importance, that Dr Merron offers health screening and ongoing care.. to keep her patients as fit, healthy and well as they can possibly be.
Her vision is to be to provide patients with a quick and easily accessible primary care service offering the best possible treatment at a time which is convenient to them. Appointment times are longer ( 30 minutes) allowing patients to discuss symptoms ,receive a comprehensive medical examination and formulate a treatment plan.
She has been practicing privately at the North Staffordshire Nuffield Hospital for the last 7 years,
Blood testing and pathology testing is offered at the time of the consultation to avoid further visits as required.
If radiological investigations are required they can be requested locally ( North Staffordshire Nuffield hospital or Rowley Hall Hospital on a private basis and usually an appointment is offered within a week or two.)
Dr Merron believes her patients deserve a full 30 minutes of her time and full attention so that she can fully explore symptoms, offer a comprehensive clinical examination and arrange a full diagnostic and management pathway in collaboration with her patients wishes ,
She is fortunate to know all the local specialists and their fields of expertise and is in a position to know whom she can refer on to if specialist care is required. She can make that referral privately or write to your GP advising an NHS referral if you prefer.( Although she can’t guarantee her NHS GP will arrange a referral )
Our private GP service is designed to complement NHS services and can be used as well as or instead of NHS services.
Private GP’s are not able to access your NHS records so we advise that you bring any information from NHS consultations such as letters, results from scans and blood tests with you to your appointment if you wish to discuss them.
Your consultation summary can be shared with your NHS GP with your consent.
There is no need to de-register from your NHS GP.

Referrals can only be made for private specialist services and investigations,
If you would like treatment none urgently through the NHS, Dr Merron can write to your GP to request this, however in the event of an emergency requiring hospital admission, Dr Merron will arrange this for you on the NHS.
