Dr Janey Merron

MB ChB, MRCGP, DRCOG, Dip. Med. Ed.

Private General Practitioner

Janey undertook her undergraduate medical training at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 1998. She went on to spend 5 years training as a junior doctor in order to become a principal GP. During this time she undertook residencies in a variety of specialties including Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. On attaining her certificate to practice as a GP, she became a GP principal in a busy inner city practice in Birmingham. In 2009 Janey relocated to North Staffordshire where she has been practicing as an NHS GP ever since.

In addition to her general practice work, she is also a GP Appraiser. Janey was a GP Trainer and a GP Training Programme Director for over 18 years. Janey is the Named GP for Child Safeguarding for North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent.

Janey has undertaken additional training in Aesthetic Medicine and provides treatments to address the signs of aging. She is a certified prescriber for a range of prescription skin care products. These include:

·       Obagi Medical Nuderm system

·       Acne and Rosacea treatments

·       Skin peels

Janey principally considers herself to be a primary care physician and prides herself on her holistic approach to patient care. She champions involving her patients in their own management decisions and using evidence based medicine as the central ethos of all her consultations.

Janey was motivated to practice as a private GP when she realised that there are a core group of patients who struggle to access primary care services at time that suits their busy modern lives. Patients can wait up to 3 weeks for an NHS GP appointment. The NHS appointment time offered is often not at a time which is convenient to a person with a busy life and commitments and can be too short to address more complex or multiple medical issues.

Her vision is to be to provide patients with a quick and easily accessible primary care service offering the best possible treatment at a time which is convenient to them. Appointment times are longer allowing patients to discuss symptoms ,receive a comprehensive medical examination and formulate a treatment plan.

Janey's patients deserve a full 30 minutes of her attention so that she can fully explore symptoms, offer a comprehensive clinical examination and arrange a full diagnostic and management pathway in collaboration with patients. She is fortunate to know all the local specialists and their fields of expertise and is in a position to know whom she can refer on to if specialist care is required. She can make that referral privately or write to your GP advising an NHS referral if you prefer.
